Neighborhood Outreach (Kingdom Work)

This post is not intended to give the men at our church a pat on the back, but rather I believe it is important to celebrate when we get things right and accomplish some work for the Kingdom.

Earlier this week an elderly lady from the community contacted SEA (Shelby Emergency Assistance) because her husband is very ill and being cared for by Hospice.  Her grass needed cutting and she had no one to turn to.  SEA contacted Calera First since lawn care is outside the scope of the services they provide and SEA knew that we had a strong mens group.

And this is where the part I am proud of comes in, no time was wasted in getting over to her house to assess the situation and 2 days later we wer back with several men and youth to take care of things for her.  Bryan (Youth Minister) has taken this own as a summer project for the youth to get over there every couple of weeks and take care of her yard.

Not only did we take care of the physical need of lawn care, Bryan and the couple of youth members that came over spent some time talking with her after they were finished.  And one of our youth lead us all in prayer before leaving.

Again this is not to brag, but to point out that the mens group is doing some good things.  If you have been looking for a place to plug in, I would encourage you to watch your email inbox for the next mens group function and join in.  The cool thing is that we have alot of fun while doing the Kingdom Work.
